building of water pipes or springs |

Yung-ho-nio (water-flow genna) - on this day the whole village is genna. From a small river in the forest (where the old men kill a pig and a chicken), water is led in bamboo pipes to the road which leads to the fields. Then they make two "springs", one for the women and, somewhat below, one for the men. Near (8) to the springs they build two platforms just beneath the road, all this is done by the morung boys. The girls have given them one chicken, which was killed in the jungle, and one basket of mashed rice. Nobody goes to the fields for if a man would do so his field would be devastated by floods of water. |
