(9) Ghagam - is a ceremony in Moniuliu on the second day after the end of Moni. All the people take some meat of the Moniu, rice, ginger, rice-beer and a piece of a broken earthen pot to the place where they have sacrificed chicken, in front of their field house. When the people come back from the fields the old men and women go straight to the village, the young people, however, stay at the two platforms. First they sit on their respective platforms, then the boys go to that of the girls. Here the girls give them madhu to drink and (10) even force them to drink a lot if they don't do it by themselves. There is much hilarity and joking and they don't go home until sunset. After this they begin weeding and there is no further ceremony till shortly before harvest. (11-12) [konyak] |
