Under the eaves of Chinyang's house two very crudely carved human figures hang and one is buried near his hearth. When Chinyang was ill 2 years ago and had fever he first took an omen with leaves who should make the genna. For this he engaged two diviners, one from Wakching and one from Wanching. They decided on a The-pong man, Kun-ba. Kun-ba carved first four very crude human figures (without limbs). Then he put these four figures on the ground on the door (sic) and tied some leaves on them. Then he killed a chicken over them (147) so that the blood fell from them. [konyak] Then he spears and hits the figures with a spear or dao. Then the clansmen of Chinyang who were with him pierced the wooden figures with small panjis in the breast, in the head, the eyes and the ears. (148) The Kun-ba took one of the figures to the morung genna place at the path. Two were hung up under the eaves of the house and one buried near the hearth. This one is renewed whenever it rots, then Chinyang himself kills a chicken over it. [konyak]. |
