(19) In each of the morungs is one Ben-ba - a man who first cuts the trees for posts and drums. The Ben-ba of Wang-dze morung is of Long-mon-shim clan. The Ben-ba of Long-dza-dze morung has died and no successor yet has been found. The late Ben-ba was a Wakching man of Aukheang morung. The Ben-ba of Nekhong-dze morung is a man of Ou-wang-bu-shu clan - the name of his "house" is Ou-yau-shim. When he dies his son will succeed him. He is the Ou-yau-ba who makes the genna with heads. (20) The Ben-bas also kill all the animals sacrificed by the morung and receive one fore-leg of them. The Long-dza-dze and Ne-khong-dze have also an official who is comparable to the Nieng-ba of Wakching. In the Long-dza-dze morung his title is Khudzu-shim. The present Ku-dzu-shim [sic] has the Longkhai face tattoo. For his father went to Longkhai and he was brought up there. But when the Ku-dzu-shim of Punkhung died the Ang called him back to take over the office as he was the nearest male relative of the late Ku-dzu-shim. He is of Long-pong-shu clan. In the Ne-khong morung his title is Me-thong-shim. He is of Wang-bu-shu clan. (21) The Ku-dzu-shim announces the gennas the day before and shouts with a loud voice that tomorrow that and that genna will be held. He only announces the gennas (for the whole village) but the Ang decides the dates and tells him to announce them. |
