Early in October the Lau-long-bu is held. It lasts only one day and is performed when the rice reaping is finished. The real wife of the Ang goes at four in the afternoon to the Ang's fields. Here she makes of the stalk of a rice plant a minute little flute, as made of bamboo otherwise, and brings it to the villages. When she arrives the young (80) men of the morung beat the drum, which is genna at other times, except when a man died or a head was taken. But after Lau-long-bu the small boys may beat the drums in their small (sic). The small boys and small girls dance in the evening, first in the house of the Dzing-don-ba Ang, respect. in the house of the Wang-shu, then all meet in the Ang's house and dance there. The adult people don't dance. But they all assemble in their houses, for whoever would be in another village on that day would die. |
