The climb was steep and hot, but not very long. After passing through some forest we emerged on a ridge. To the left was the Zemi village of Laisong, and in front of us the Police outpost; this consists of quite a large settlement of modern tin-roofed houses as well as some thatched huts. We asked for the Commanding Officer, but he was away and the officer next in command, a portly Nepali from West No.4, was much taken aback by my appearance. No wireless message had arrived. With the help of Bordolai, he and the minor officials who soon gathered were assured of my bona fide, and just then a wireless message arrived. |

We were offered tea and then a meal of rice, dhal and potatoes with many apologies for its inadequacy. The officer mellowed even more when I talked about Nepal and dropped a few Nepali phrases. |

There was no room for us in the outpost and they suggested the Inspection Bungalow, far as it is. |
