fond memories of British rule |
text: |
After a little time his father came in, - a very old man but full of life, judging from his expression of wit. He spoke about Ursula. Our host too knew her though he must have been a small boy, - he then said how much better things were in the British days - everything cheap. I do not know whether he wanted to please me, but judging from Ursula's accounts the Zemis had few concrete benefits from British rule. Perhaps the negative advantage of being left alone was remembered. |
