corpse platforms outside Chui |

On the steep ascent to Chui, one of the jeeps broke down and we continued on foot. In front of the village gate is the grave-yard. To one side were some old corpse platforms and houses, and to the other was the burial of a daughter of the Ang. The corpse had been buried in a large round stone cist, (on which was written in Roman letters "In memory of Miss.....") There were brass-gongs and dishes, and a string of bells such as worn by Ang girls encircled the urn. The two pronged ornamented spear of the girl stood behind the grave. |
