text: Instead of going to Jorhat I stayed on and saw something of modern Konyak life. Today is "Teachers' Day" and there was a celebration in the High School including children from primary schools. I had been asked by the ADC to give an address, and it would have been rude to refuse. What I did not know was that every sentence had to be translated in Naga Assamese, and the ADC did this very efficiently. I spoke about preserving Naga Culture despite technological progress. The teachers are nearly all outsiders and I do not know how my address was received by them.
text: The afternoon was spent in writing and packing, for tomorrow we hope to hike to Tang, a village not attainable by road.
