text: The United Mikir and North Cachar Hills district came into existence in 1951. Before that the district formed part of the Nowgong, Sibsagar, United Khasi-Jaintia Hills and Cachar districts. The district covers an area of 5,883 square miles (152370 sq. km.) and lies between latitudes 24o54' and 26o41'N and longitudes 92o8' and 93o53'E. It is bounded on the north by the districts of Nowgong and Sibsigar, on the east by Sibsigar, Nagaland and Manipur, on the south by Cachar district and on the west by the United Khasi-Jaintia Hills district. It comprises the two subdivisions, Mikir Hills and North Cachar Hills. There are four police stations under Mikir Hills: ie. Baithalangso, Howraghel. Bokajan and Diphu; and Haflong police station under North Cachar Hills. Diphu is the district headquarters, Haflong the subdivisional headquarters. Villages:
