15 boys belong to it. Kuitalang is the 'owner' of the morung; he is of Keleipeitsa. Before him, not his father, but another Keleipeitsa man was owner of the morung. Boys of 3 clans (Keleipeitsa, Bauriame and Hangpomtsa) come to this morung. Neume boys are only in the upper morung, but a newly born boy of Neume clan could be recruited to this morung. Dekuying is of Keleipeitsa subclan is Kadeopeo (sic) of the village. All this land in the village belongs to him. There is only one Kadepeo, his father was also Kadepeo. Outside the village Keleipeitsa and other clans have clan land. Within the clan land individual families have been alloted land ie. have ownership rights to specific plots. Members of the same clan group may freely cultivate on such land without paying the other, but members of other clans must pay a rent in the form of part of the crop. The Kadepeo makes pujas for the whole village, and for the morung. No one else can do so. If the Kadepeo's family dies out, the oldest man of the village makes pujas. But the Kadepeo must be succeeded by a man of his clan. |
