Chimung village stole cow from Yamrup, previously set fire to to Younu |

Halted and opened the treasury again. A report was brought in that Chimung, a Sangtam village, had looted a cow from Yamrup (Chang) which belongs to Sittobung, the chief's brother, who has gone to France. The chief had been to try and get it back but they refused to give it up. I told the dobashis that they had better invite Chimung in and reason with them. Chimung is a troublesome village rather. They had a row with Younu the year before last and both parties came into Mokokchung and agreed on a settlement and as soon as they got back the young men went and set fire to Younu. They paid the customary fine to the mediators who were nominally the chiefs of Ya but have been at war since. It will be easy to turn the screw on if they do not return Sittobung's cattle. |
