Left Gauhati 7.45 pm on the 14th by train and arrived Dimapur 8.0 am on the 15th. Here I picked up my mail which had come down from Kohima with my servants and sent back what I did not want in Camp. I also found that my servants had all been inoculated against cholera. |

Captn. Siviter Smith was at the Inspection Bungalow, and went off by the evening train. He told me that Budano, a half Angami half Assamese headman of the 37th Company, has been going about the Kohima Bazar and Kohima village lecturing and haranguing the public generally on the impossibility of resisting the Germans. Capt. Smith also ascribes to this man the responsibility for the tendency to give trouble which appeared into the 35th Company in France when their time had expired but their return to India had not begun. The latter however, is of small importance compared to the spreading among the Angamis of the notion that we use being beaten. His words will also possibly reach the Kukis eventually as Budano, who is mission spawned, has been declaiming to the congregation at the mission after service, and there is a small colony of Kukis in the Bazar of whom quite a number are Christians. |
