Halted Kiyeshe. A warrant was brought in and shown to me by the Gaonbura of Nahatomi. It was a warrant of arrest issued against the Gaonbura and all the villagers of Nahatomi served by two Dobhashis who left the warrant and went away. This is the sort of brilliant effort my office delights in when left to itself, though I admit that my orders on the record were not as clear as they should have been. |

The back wall of the Inspection Bungalow is almost destroyed by the rain. The overseer will prepare an estimate for weather-boarding it. The weather-boarding should extend across the greater part of the back veranda on the plan of the Ghukia Inspection Bungalow. |

I paid an old woman to sit in Ghukwi and teach the girls to weave their own clothes. She does not seem to have made much progress, but they are all very busy just now. The price of the Naga woven cloths has gone up over 50% as a result partly of the high price of thread in Kohima, partly and probably mostly because of the return of the labourers from France with money to buy clothes which has greatly increased the demand. A cloth that formerly cost Rs. 8/- cannot now be bought for less than 16/- and rarely at that. The old and very poor are finding life rather unusually hard at present. |
