text: Nerhema, Chichama, Themoketsa, Themokidi and all the neighbouring villages are suffering severely from lack of rice. Last year was a very bad one and this year promises to be worse. The want of rain has caused the young rice to wither and the bulk of the crop is damaged already if not destroyed. Rice is being bought in the shops in Kohima and carried out by the villagers in large quantities, but they say that the Kayas often refuse to sell and pretend they have no rice. When they do sell, it is at 8 seers the rupee.
