text: Went on with maps. These can none of them be accepted as they are far too inaccurate to serve as a record of existing cultivation. They show roughly the approximate site of the field and that is all. The work is very difficult owing to the levels and should have been done by an expert instead of by an overseer just told off to make a survey. No details for checking the position of the terraces are given except mile posts on the cart road, and even the measurements taken along the cart road do not always correspond to those on the maps.
text: In the afternoon I met the Overseer who had made the maps. He was most reluctant to come and check one of them on the ground.
