To Dimapur where I inspected the liquor shop. By testing various bottles I find that whisky bottles of different brands hold different quantities of liquid. Thus "Haig and Haig" bottles held two drams more than the standard 8 drams; another similar bottle (perhaps also "Haig and Haig") held one and a half more than the eight drams; a bottle with a gold and red label and square sides, "Johnie Walker" I think, held one dram above the eight. Another bottle produced held exactly eight. I am inclined to think therefore that the vendor's statement that he charged sometimes Rs.1/3/- and sometimes Rs. 1/4/- instead of Rs. 1/2/- when he was asked to fill the bottle up is quite true. |
