Samaguting riot case; trouble caused by Maharaja's State Police at Nichuguard |

To Nichuguard. Heard the Samaguting rioting case and punished both sides. A silly dispute about a fence not worth a broken head except for the physical exercise it occasioned. |

While at Nichuguard some excited men of Piphima came running to complain that 30 sepoys of the Maharaja's State Police - as thorough a set of blackguards as were ever bred - had come and demanded girls and provisions from Piphima lower village and had threatened violence if they did not get them. A tussle ensued and two Semas were caught and tied up by them and taken away. I sent up the Head Constable from Nichuguard to enquire. The sepoys later lodged a complaint that the two Sema had tried to rob them of their rifles in broad daylight - 2 men armed with one dao against 30 bayonets. |
