Description of an unpleasant march along an uncleared path in the rain |
text: |
Mechangbung to Leikei (in the North Cachar Hills), 16 miles. It rained all day and rained heavily. The path had not all been cleared as three villages had failed to turn out when sent by the Muharrir "as it was too wet". Of course they came from a distance and it means camping on the road till the work is finished. However their uncut miles were unpleasant going - jungle as high as one's head and quite blind under foot and steady rain. I sent the pony back after the 4th mile but reached Leikei by 2.0 pm where it continued to rain. I disposed of the case I came to take, the parties being unexpectedly present, and the rain went on all night. |
