To Infoma, starting at 9.0 and getting in at 5.0, with a halt of about 20 minutes in Tesifima, where I heard a ridiculous theft case which was causing tremendous excitement because the respective parties belonged to the upper and lower khels, always inclined to be up in arms against one another on the most trivial of excuses. The road runs from Phiro to Tesifima, then down to the valley and up to Silizuma, down to the Nzhu valley, and up to the ridge and along it westwards to Infoma. My Nagas put the total distance variously at from 19 to 23 miles, but as it took eight hours steady going with not more than about half an hour in halts, it could not well have been much under 21. |

Tesifima has been half burned down - a week ago- and I have exempted it from cooly work on the road for six months. The work will be done by Insuma when the coolies required are 11 or fewer and by Kotsoma when 12 or more. Parwanas to issue at once and the six months to take effect from the date of issue. |

Longsa applied for an alteration in the supply of rations to travellers at Wokha. One way they are supplied by Wokha and I think, Humtso and Illumyo. The other way it is all done by Longsa at present, and they consider Niroyu and Longsachang should help. Probably they should but they are smaller villages, and some proportion will have to be fixed. This can only be done in Kohima. |

Thombemo Gaonbura of Phiro resigns and is exempted. Pongtemo is appointed in his place. There were vast numbers of application for exemption in Phiro and I promised that the village should be counted before the next cold weather. |
