Continuing problem of settlement of land dispute |
text: |
The Sikhama Gaonburas came without the fine and not only said that their village would not pay, but flatly asserted that they intended to continue poaching bamboos from the Khezakenoma land which they had admitted had been out of their possession since the Naga Hills had been occupied by the British. The land is actually on the Naga Hills side of the boundary, but the Political Agent will deal with them. |

The Pununamei Gaonburas also objected very stoutly to our orders in the case between them and Khezakenoma, who also tried to wriggle out of our settlement with rather less vigour than Pununamei. We gave our orders and both sides were properly dissatisfied at the result of their cross cases on this occasion - at least I hope so. Neither got any change at all. Left for Jakhama when the shouting and wrangling had more or less subsided. |

Another perenial here, but very small beer. One Zelucha complains that one Megweho is trying to get back some property lost to Zelucha's father many years ago in a case believed to be recorded in Kohima but hitherto untraced. I have told the parties that the property will remain as it is and the question will not be re-opened and that Megweho will be punished if he tried to get hold of it and Zelucha if he makes frivolous complaints. |
