Problems of upkeep at Sanis Inspection Bungalow |
text: |
To Sanis. The road better than it was last year, but I notice that the buttresses of both Bagti bridges are badly cracked. The one nearer Sanis on the Bhandari side, and vice-versa. The one nearer Bhandari is worst and needs attention pretty soon. The Sanis Inspection Bungalow is also better than last year on the whole. The stables were a disgrace and only had fragments of roofing so I housed my pony in the Overseer's quarters. The state of the stables seems to have been due to a laudable attempt of the Muharrir's to make them last out the rains. Last year I suggested that the wood-work of the Inspection Bungalow should be tarred. Some genius has tarred it and then earth-oiled the tar (probably before it was dry) and it is now impossible to touch a door without getting all mucked up. A sticky brown mixture exudes from the wood and distills from the beams and one washes one's hands at inconveniently frequent intervals. |
