Decision against chief of Khuivi; Cheswalimi chiefs fined for their mithan straying into Kilomi panikhets; successful tree planting |

To Kilomi, where I made myself very unpopular by enforcing against the chief of Khuivi a Sema custom by which this chief's men may leave his village if he cannot provide them with food. As a rule of course any custom that favours the villager as against his chief is ignored, as all dobashis are, or hope to be, chiefs or dislike becoming unpopular with them. I also made the Cheswalimi chiefs pay very heavy damages for the trouble caused by their mithan in Kilomi panikhets, which they considered most unjust. |

The trees planted between Satakha Inspection Bungalow and the by-road to Zhekiya are doing well. In some places the seedlings (self sown) are so thick that they should be collected and transplanted to fill gaps. After the Zhekiya turn there are practically no trees. They are badly needed on the outside of the path to keep the land from slipping. The Muharrir must look out that all the trees planted are not burnt when the land is jhumed. A narrow strip of jungle should be left uncut behind them. |
