Via Jessami to Metikumi. On the way Jessami entertained us nobly to zu and spears and salt and rice and proferred the usual request to be transferred to the Naga Hills, together with a complaint that two of their four licensed guns given them by Mr. Higgins when President, Manipur State Durbar had been taken away from them for no fault or cause by the Sub Divisional Officer, Ukhrul and sold to Tangkhuls, and also a complaint against having to supply 30 maunds of rice to Ukhrul, which one would have thought could have got it as easily from the valley, though transport may be the difficulty in that case. At Metikumi we fished the Thetsaru and caught a certain number of small fish which I took for Chelwa but Mr. Clarke says they are not; a fly proved the best bait. |
