Settlement of the Losama - Gazifema land and fishing dispute |
text: |
Down the long Gazifema ridge to where the Raza stream joins the Lania river. On the way we disposed of the Losama-Gazifema land and fishing dispute. To fix a southern boundary for Losama we virtually extended down the east side of the range the boundary already existing on the west side between Gazifema and some of the Naga Hills villages. There is said to be some dispute as to the actual lie of their boundary but Thecholumi who had to surrender the land to Gazifema probably know where it really is. On the east side of the range the land does not seem even to have been jhumed and jhuming on the west side has probably been little. The Gazifema boundary on the east of the range was fixed a little further south, and both sides were forbidden to jhum or to fish in the Lania between the two boundaries given, though hunting in the reserved area was not prohibited to either village. The disputed ridge is known as Tharamche or Taramotsu. |
