text: To Chingtang - the weather still fine and hot till evening when a heavy storm came on. We crossed the Yangnyu into administered territory by a bridge which was slung on the wire cables put up in 1912 for a temporary bridge, which are still intact though they have never been looked at since. I suggested that it would be worth while having these cables examined, and tarred from time to time. It would cost nothing and the bridge is useful. We could not have crossed the Yangnyu without it, as the river was in flood, without a great deal of trouble and some risk. The cables are fortunately tied to trees and so all visible, instead of being anchored in the ground.
