To Mao. I stopped at Viswema on the way to inspect the Thana and find out about Kuki Operations Medals claimants. I did the latter, but could not do the former as the Thana wasn't ready. I put it off till my return. I went into Khuzama to have a look at the village, and visited the School, which is not quite so flourishing as it was a few years ago, but keeps going all right. The Pandit wants a box to put books etc. in, and he ought to have one. At Mao I gave out the Razama medals. |

I noticed at Viswema that some terraces usually under rice are this year Jobs tears and millet. When I asked I found that just round the village, when manure water is plentiful, they practise a sort of rotation of crops, growing millet or coix dry some years and wet rice others. They say that they get excellent crops this way, but that it could not be done without the fertilizer. |
