inter-district cases at Mao; definition of hunting rights in the Thetsirr Valley |
text: |
Halted Mao, and tried inter-district cases with Political Agent and President Manipur State Durbar. Also held a meeting of the road committee with Political Agent and Executive Engineer. Among other points that came up between the Naga Hills and Manipur was the question of shikar in the Thetsirr Valley. Kanjang wished for the entire prohibition of Manipur subjects from hunting on the Naga Hills side of the river, with the exception of Jessami. The Political Agent thought this too exclusive and we agreed that hunting up the Thetsirr Valley should be allowed to Kharasom, Khonjai and Paothang villages in Manipur as far as Metikumi, but not to villages further south, and that no Manipur villages should have a right to shikar up the hills on the east bank, except to pursue an animal already wounded. But for that they are limited to the flat land in the Valley, and must not shikar beyond it. |
