To Satakha, via Zhekiya. The path has been disgracefully neglected. And I learn from Kiyeshe that the muharrir has not been seen there for 4 or 5 months. He sends an unauthorized deputy from Chipoketami. He is suspended from September 1st and called on to explain and show cause why he should not be dismissed. |

Between Ghukhwi and Zhekiya I reserved an additional piece of heavy jungle as protected forest. The boundaries are:- the Aposukeghowoki stream from its source on the ridge to the bridle path; along the bridle path towards Zhekiya to the point where the Nihoyilogoki stream crosses it; up that stream to its source on the ridge; along the crest of the ridge to the source of the Aposukeghowoki. The former owners of the land can cut tangal and bamboos in it. |

I inspected a bed of seedling acacias at Kiyeshe. It had been looked after but the seedlings are not doing well. Hetoi recommends a local acacia known as kholesu, as being hardier and a quicker grower. |

I called in at Ghukhwi village and tasted "stinking dal" for the first, and probably the last, time. It tastes, as it smells, like meat in the ultimate stage of odoriferous decay. There has been a dispute as to who is to clear and be generally responsible for the mile at the Satakha end of the Zhekiya-Khukiya by-road. Zhekiya is responsible and the bill will be made out in their name irrespective of Satakha's claim for payment, if any. |

An easy chair is wanted at Satakha I.B. as at Satazuma and Cheswezuma. The I.B. badly needs weather-boarding at the back and the west end. I have told the muharrir who says he has plenty of boards over from the ceiling, and can get it done. Also the beams that run round under the eaves of the bungalow are worm-eaten and the rain comes down the chimney. An easy chair is needed. |

Khehokhu son of Nikelho came in with the latest stories of the Hoshyepu - Kukishe quarrels. He also applies for a cloth as the eldest son of the original Chief, though the village is run by Khetoi, a cousin, who came and joined the village after its foundation. Another cousin, Pukeho, brother of Khetoi, has also had a cloth once. Two are all that this village can get and probably they should go to Khetoi and Khehokhu. Seven men of this village (Kosanasami) came in for Kuki Operations medals. |
