Among other complaints was one from Infoma about the Church gong. The Ancients dislike it and they say it causes the crops to fail, probably because the sound of it frightens the Rice Spirit. No doubt the Christians, being new converts and over-zealous, hammer it to excess. One of them mentioned casually that the padre Sahib said it was a sin to drink zu, an interesting statement, as the said padre has recently stated in print that the prohibition of zu in the Baptist congregation does not, in his experience, emanate from the Missionaries at all. |

On the way we had an impromptu pig hunt after a domestic pig that had run wild and turned up near the path, and thanks to my dog, we got it and I gave the mask to the only lady in at the death. |
