Problems concerning a cow path and the water supply at Khonoma |

14/1/1926 To Khonoma. In the afternoon I went up to the site of the fort to see about a cow path the Merhema khel want opened. I said they could open it (and showed them the place) when they reopened the water channel that feeds the village. The cow-path has been closed since Khonoma was occupied in 1882 apparently. The channel was made after the fort was occupied and after the channel was made some Merhema people built houses along side of it. When the guard was removed I was particularly requested by the Khonoma people to arrange that the pipe line bringing the water over the last bit should be left. It was left but soon after the channel got blocked mysteriously and Merhema now object to reopening it because it will make two or three houses damp, but as a matter of fact the channel and pipes were there before the houses. It is really mostly on Merhema's part as they live near the outside spring and the other khels have to fetch their water from a long distance, as long as the channel is closed. |

Vicha the Khonoma pandit has been issuing slips or summons - or at any rate one - to Kacha Nagas to come to Khonoma to get their cases settled. I have warned him that if he does it again I shall dismiss him. |
