The slip on the 31st mile is still on the move. The Muharrir says the overseer proposes to put in a pukka wall, but if he does it will just go down the hill. He must get back to the rock before building. Any additional weight on the road will make it go the faster. Probably the only alterations at present are to let it go on slipping and keep clearing it or to deliberately start clearing the earth until the rock which is probably behind it is reached. I fancy the first is the simplest. A rough stone wall built by one Kisanding at the 31st mile-stone lasted just one month. It was very badly built and he will have to put it up again or else get no more contracts. Haidunghinglung's wall a little further on is not much better. |

At Pedi there were a crowd of people with complaints and innumerable requests for guns. I renewed a number of licences. Taijang village who have been here for 20 years can get no land from Ngolomi for next year and are going to move to Lemhema. As they are going of necessity I do not propose to increase their revenue. |
