Illegally cleared trees; a widow's complaint; method of settling boundary disputes |

18/5/1926 To Lakema. At Ridima the trees in the road side lands have been cleared or burnt out. I dealt with the offenders. One Illeola, a lady of Tampung, widow and mother of Ridima men complained that her Tampung relatives had sold her fuel plantation at that village. As it is in Manipur I had no jurisdiction, but put this on record in case the question ever comes up again. (in margin: since settled sd. J.H.H.) |

At Lakema I renewed a number of gun licences and spent the rest of the day in hearing cases mostly between parties who neither of them pretended to know the boundaries of their own lands, the procedure in such cases is simple - each litigant claims everything within sight, and you divide the inhabited world between them equally, without prejudice to the claims of third parties. |
