21/5/1926 To Mpaimi ("Tapama") going down to the Barak - down the river and then up to the top of the ridge again - a long march and a very steep climb at the end. Mpaimi is a biggish village for their parts, about 60 houses in the form of - [sic; a] street with the houses facing each other, very suggestive of a Chang village with its heavy overhanging peaked gables. The village most effectively protected by approaches through deep cuttings covered with thorny creepers on props which are pulled away in war time so that the thorns block the cutting, and ending in ladders up to the village gate. |

The Kacha Naga (Nzemi) of these villages has far less objection to nudity than the Angamis. When bathing they strip freely and where carrying a load they roll up their kilts and tie them in front with a flap like a Tangkhul. |
