Lenkhup of Phaikulung complained that Paipha village burns the jungle on the Naga Hills side of the Dhansiri in order to find game which they have hunted and lost across the river. This seriously interferes with cultivation as it spoils the land for jhuming. Paipha is in the North Cachar Hills. |

Many complaints about elephants, particularly from Tolbung. I have told them that if the elephants turn up this year and they report at Kohima, someone will be sent to shoot the gunda about which there are complaints in particular. |

A heavy storm came on in the afternoon and the Barak in which I was fishing began to rise. After getting back into camp the Tesangki rose about 2 ft., subsided and rose again 3 ft. or so. |
