26/7/1926 Halted Sakhalu. Went with S.D.O. to examine the disputed boundary between this village and Sheyepu. No record was found at Mokokchung of the boundary fixed by Mr Davis and the boundary laid along the ridge by dobashis etc. acting under alleged orders of the S.D.O. is in dispute. I will see if Mr Davis' boundary can be found recorded in Kohima and if so the S.D.O., or I, will lay it in the cold weather, when it must be continued down to the Tizu and all lands held across it finally disposed of, so that the boundary becomes absolute. Meanwhile I have ordered the village to jhum the top of the ridge so that the boundary can be properly laid and described and have warned them that it will be laid without reference to who cut any particular field, and that any area left uncleared will be forfeited by both villages. |
