text: 15/11/1926 Doubled to Mokokchung. On the way I was met by parties of Christians first male and then female, who on my arrival broke into spiritual song. The males, as a matter of fact, sang very well, but I found that the hymn was one called "Have you been to Jesus". I cannot help suspecting that the Deputy Commissioner is regarded as not yet saved. The women and girls screeched. I went up into their village - Mukuli, new since my time. A decent clean village, and one at peace with all the world at present. It seemed to be Christian without being sophisticated or spoilt - a rare phenomenon in the Naga Hills.

text: 17/11/1926 Halted. We were to have gone on and camped at the Dikhu, but a very heavy down-pour of rain early in the morning put us off, and I improved the occasion by inspecting the ammunition shop.
