8/12/1926 To Kongan Bridge. About nine miles, but it took us as long as much further. The road goes down the present bridle path to about 6 miles from Wakching. There we had hoped to pick up last years' trace and march along it, and we did so for a time, but the jungle got thicker and thicker and elephants tramping about in all directions had so hopelessly obscured the track that we soon got lost and had eventually to climb down through thick and still leechy jungle to a precipitous stream and down that till we struck some Nagas starting to clear the trace from the other end. |

The site for the bridge is a very fine one, and the bridge should be well clear of high flood level. |

9/12/1926 Halted Kongan bridge. Mr Pawsey very busy superintending the erection of the nahor masts. It was as well he did, as the overseer had been about to put them up in the wrong places. I got rid of a good deal of accumulated dak. |
