Depopulation of villages; abduction of girls by Chop villages |

To Nokphan, about 11 miles, via Chopsa. This last used to be a big village of over 100 houses, now dwindled to 20, apparently owing to migration to the plains. There are said to be only 5 houses each in Chopnyu and Nokphan and none in Chopsa from which the Ang of Chopnyu was entitled to take hand-maidens. The attempted ravishing of Miknya was for the benefit of the Ang of Chopsa who is Chopnyu's nephew. The Ang of Nokphan objected and said let each Ang take from his own village, but this obviously would not suit Chopsa. |
