Hetoi reports that the mithan make it almost impossible to regenerate jhum land by sowing alder as they trample out or devour the young trees. In future all jhums east of the Old Sema Road in which alder seeds are sown must be kept fenced for a third year after the second cropping so as to give the young trees a chance to grow up. |

Kiyeshe has been giving a lot of trouble in the matter of boundaries, principally because villagers will obliterate boundaries laid by the chief to settle their disputes. Theoretically, of course, the land belongs to the chief but the same plots are commonly cultivated again and again by the same family, and a successful encroachment enlarges the portion of land allotted for cultivation. |
