Several suicide cases; a troublemaker threatens Pyangsa gaonburas; decay of villages caused by carrying |

To Horupani via Shenka and Liokha, about 12 miles. There have been several suicides hereabout this year by hanging. A boy of Momphiyo hanged himself because his uncle threatened to chastise him for interfering with his snares: the suicide in Chidi was on account of illness; the third was in Liokha. Suicide apparently is not regarded in this village as a "bad death". |

The Gaonburas of Pyangsa complained of having been threatened by Chichamo, a denationalized Lhota of Pyangsa now resident at Wokha and a very pestilential fellow, that he would have them sacked. They showed me his letter. Apparently a relative (and a fellow convert) of Chichamo's has been making himself a nuisance in the village, and Chichamo is interfering to protect him. |

The villages of Liokha and Shenka are both lower than the four villages visited on the 18th and might be expected to be less healthy. Yet they have higher populations than two of them and fewer decrepits than any. I fear too much carrying on the road may have been responsible for the decay of Yimza and Lishiyo. |
