With Assistant Executive Engineer to visit certain slips in the 41st and 28th mile and back, about 18 miles. In the both case the owner of fields below the road had complained that the P.W.D. were disposing of earth that had slipped on to the road in such a manner as to damage their fields. The 1st slip was in the 2nd quarter of the 41st mile. The field was a jhum field and the earth that had slipped on to the road had been thrown over onto vacant (P.W.D.) land just below. Some had gone on and damaged some of the rice and maize at the top of the jhum and a stream had damaged some too but I cannot hold the P.W.D. to blame at all. As things were when I saw them the owner had no claim. In the 38th mile (1st quarter) the field in danger was a panikhet. No damage at all had been done. The owner said that the pressure of the earth thrown over the road had stopped his nullah. Anyhow his field was getting water and the nullah was open. I rather suspect the field of having been cultivated on the chance of a landslide and compensation. Anyhow when I saw it no claim against the P.W.D. would stand. I had Lhuvishe dobashi with me. |
