text: May 4th 1934. By lorry to Maram. A cold, wet uncomfortable journey.
text: 5th I was to have gone via Maram to Oklong to meet Political Agent, but the rain had swollen the river so that it was unlikely to be fordable for several days. I therefore went up to Maram village in the morning and in the afternoon caught a lorry to Karong where I met the Political Agent. When leaving Maram village I was nearly bumped by the biggest barking deer I have seen, disturbed by a dog just outside the village fence. One of the very rare occasions when I have entered a Naga village and not been offered a drink of any kind by anyone.
