16th To Tamlu - about 20 miles, but the mile stones are arranged to create in the mind of the traveller the greatest amount of confusion possible. In 1929 I gave orders that the miles were to be renumbered from the point of junction of the old Tamlu Gileki road now abandoned as to go in the ordinary way to Tamlu and on thence via the Tamlu-Wakching junction to Naginimara Station, giving a complete series again from Mokokchung to the plains. Wakching should be treated as a branch line from the junction. The S.D.O. says he give similar orders last year, but anyhow nothing has been done at all. If this is typical of the Overseer's work I marvel how he has retained his increments. |

The road extremely hot (until we were caught in a very violent storm two or three miles from Tamlu) and heavily scented by the flower of a biggish tree called lak by the Konyaks and smelling just like a hawthorn hedge in bloom. |
