26th. To Kharasom. - About 9 miles - down to the river and up again. A small Tangkhul village which appeared unusually poor. The Tangkhuls bury their dead inside the house but put up a cenotaph on the path and just outside the village was a new one with a beautifully made miniature house complete with house horns and genna poles, for the soul to live in together with the usual accompaniment of deer, tiger, pig and prisoners of war, and a miniature menhir. |
