11th. We started out for the village heard of the day before but found that it was across the high range and down the other side and therefore in Burma. Accordingly after sighting the village from above we turned back to the high range and sending the main body and most of the coolies back to yesterday's camp we camped with a few coolies, the signallers and one section of the escort in the pass on the high range. The range was disappointingly low, only about 7500, but we found water only a mile down the hill on the Assam side and prospected along a range in the afternoon. The rhododendron trees in full flower were a wonderful sight from the ridge, when they were outlined on a background of blue haze and distant mountains but we got no good view of Saramati which was enveloped in cloud. |

The offshoot of Nimi (Lungphura) on the Burma side is called Kulando-ru and has only ten houses. It is said to have a path to Matong. We took its situation by bearings with a prismatic compass and located it at longitude 95,0 by latitude 25' 40' at a height of about 4000 ft. |

In the pass a puja had been performed with eggs and pigs' tushes because it was through that pass that Nimi saw the sunlight first in the morning and through that pass the clouds came over from the other side of the range. |
