a tiring march to Longmatrare, and evidence of Sema-Sangtam conflict |

17th. To Longmatare - about 14 miles, but owing to the excessive heat (90 in the shade) and the extremely steep descents and ascents crossing five spurs, the march was most exhausting. Several of the coolies collapsed before the end of the march and we did not get into camp till evening. I had a swim in the Zungki while we halted there. The water was unexpectedly cold. Between Sampure and Longmatare the path was full of panjis on account of the 'kata kati' between Semas and Sangtams. |
