text: 4th Sept. To Mahur by train. At lower Haflong a curious coincidence occurred. Mr. Calvert spotted a Naga in the other train standing in the Station. I had him out and found he was one Gatoi, a cousin of a Mokokchung Dobashi, and was being taken down to Silchar by another Sema servant to make his fortune. He at once attached himself to me and I brought him back to Mahur.
text: A number of Thados met us at Mahur. One Thado Dobashi has already been selected by Mr. Calvert, and strenuous efforts were made to persuade him to appoint another of a different clan. This is a healthy sign which pleased me immensely; only a year ago the scrapings of Haflong bazaar were the only applicants for such posts. A good self-respecting Dobashi staff will be the making of the Subdivision.
