Mixed culture of Ya village; head-taking raids |
text: |
To Ya (Noksan) - 8 miles. A stiff climb up to the village. It is a big place, where Changs and trans-Dikhu Aos live together amicably with different cultures. Every year or so a desire for fresh air and exercise causes them to raid Yacham (sq.153). Yacham have before now intimated that they hope this will never be stopped, as they occasionally get a head from the raiders, who never get one at all. The father of the little slave adopted by a Mokokchung dobashi is not dead after all. He turned up here and asked with charmingly polite diffidence if I could let him have his son back. He shall, of course, have him as soon as we get to Mokokchung. |
