To Longtang (sq.108) - 11 miles. The climb of 4000 feet up to Hak was not as bad as we had expected, but the path down on this side went in and out of re-entrants till we thought we should never get here. A lot of neighbouring villages came in. |

On leaving Tuensang in the morning I had to say goodbye to my old friend Chingmak of Chingmei. It was a moment we both disliked. He is a Naga of the finest type and has helped Government with the utmost loyalty. On this expedition he has been literally indispensable. His village is on the edge of the slave-raiding area and he used all his great influence to help us. Without his aid we could not possibly have got the slaves back. I intend to ask that his conduct be recognised. |
